The College English Teaching and Innovation Center (Teaching Guidance and Process Quality Supervision Center) is responsible for teaching supervision and management, specifically for college English teaching planning, teaching process study, and teaching data collection and analysis. The center organizes regular biweekly seminars, focusing on the enhancement of College English teaching quality, teaching pedagogies, teaching concept upgrading, and teaching process management. The decisions of the meetings are incorporated into student cultivation programs, and, with effective measures, applied to the innovation of teaching content and strategies, resulting in teaching excellence and the comprehensive English proficiency of the students and the enhancement of college English teaching.

This center, under the leadership of the school, carries out the following tasks:

1. Study of the positioning of College English courses: the center takes various forms such as investigations, experience collection, expert consulting, symposiums or seminars to guide the college English teaching, so as to further clarify the positioning, highlight the characteristics of courses, and better define the construction of the course systems.

2. Analysis of teaching quality enhancement: The center organizes seminars, workshops and opportunities for faculty development and supports innovation with regard to improving pedagogies and curriculum design, conducting rigorous research to back the efforts in implementing new educational policies and initiatives, and providing actionable insights to support College English teaching and learning strategies, quality assurance, and quality enhancement.

3. Assisting in organizing competitions: The center coordinates organization and management in competitions, strengthening teaching guidance for competitions. It also recruits competition experts to give advice to competition participants. Additionally, based on research and selection through its home-made mechanism, the center identifies and trains better participants into competition stars.

4. Promoting golden classes: The center promotes the creation of “golden classes” and rejects “water classes”. The new teaching methods the center has adopted include MOOCs and micro courses. Meanwhile, it also explores new ways of teaching that are networked with information technologies.

5. Assisting and participating in the process management of teaching projects.

6. Assisting in teaching quality supervision: The center strengthens the assessment of teaching process. With special checks, material examinations, and class attending, it practically inspects teaching arrangement, curriculum syllabus, teaching material selection, the way of examinations (tests), examination paper review and filing norms, and classroom teaching.
